On the Time We Were on Pickler & Ben
The Lead Up
In mid-January, a couple of producers who work with the talk show Pickler & Ben reached out to us and asked if we would be willing to share our story on an upcoming show featuring transformational weight loss stories. The producers who contacted us had heard about our story through the Global News article that had been written about us back in November of 2017. We continue to be so grateful to Global News for telling our full story, scars and all.
We were of course thrilled with the opportunity and we flew out to Nashville on January 24th to shoot our segment for the show.
We arrived in Nashville just before midnight on January 24th, we checked into our hotel and went straight to sleep, excited for the big day we had ahead of us.
The next morning, we arrived at the studio early in the morning. It was great to meet the crew who work on the show, they were fantastic to work with. A few parts of the morning were a bit surreal, like changing in our dressing room, or getting make up ready for the cameras. Another surreal moment was meeting Jillian Michaels who was also on the show that day.
One of the best parts of the day was getting to meet other people from across America who had also made the decision to lead a more healthy, active lifestyle and lost a life changing amount of weight as a result. One of the people we met was Morgan, who was recently featured in People Magazine's 'half their size' issue.
Meeting so many amazing people was the best part of our trip!
After a lot of anticipation, it was time to shoot our segment for the show. We were pretty nervous, but super happy with how it turned out.
Fun in Nashville!
This was our first time visiting Nashville, so we decided to stay a few extra days and see the city. It was so much fun and we would totally recommend Nashville as a place to visit!
We discovered that there is reason the live music scene in Nashville is world renowned and there is something there for all tastes. We found an amazing place by the hotel we were staying at called Burbon Street Blues Boogie Bar. We tried their fried alligator bites and they did not disappoint. We also became fans of The Voodoo Fix who were playing there. We lead pretty busy lives in Edmonton, so it was really nice to get out on the town for a couple of nights.
It turns out that Nashville is a pretty great city of runners. Brian ran along a river trail called the Cumberland River Greenway and saw lots of other people out for a run or bike ride. We both took the opportunity to run out to Centennial Park and check out the full scale replica of the Parthenon.
One of the best parts of running in Nashville was being able to head out the door in shorts and a t shirt. Running in Edmonton in the winter involves a lot of layers!
Continue to be Overwhelmed
Both of us continue to be overwhelmed by the interest that people have in our story, but if sharing our story can demonstrate that it's totally possible to take a really negative experience and turn it into something not only positive, but life changing, then we are happy to keep sharing our story!
